Challenger Close Contact Protocol

This information is to help our students and families understand what the school’s protocol will be for a student who is identified as a close contact for COVID.  Close contact is defined by CDC as someone who was within 6 feet of an infected person for a cumulative total of 15 minutes over a 24 hour period. If a school staff member has determined that your child was a close contact, you will receive the following information for your student to continue their school experience: 

UNVACCINATED Students 

Option 1: Modified Quarantine

Students may continue to attend school but must:

Not attend before or after school activities

Test every 3 days for 10 days:

Testing can be done at the following sites:

• Challenger on Thursday from 12:00pm - 3:00pm. To register your student for testing at Challenger, please follow these steps HERE
• Mira Mesa High School on Monday from 8:30am - 4:30pm. To register your student for testing at Mira Mesa High School, please follow these steps HERE

When you receive your results from your COVID test, please email your results to the Nursing and Wellness department at sdusdnursing@sandi.net.  Students can also bring their test results to our health office.

Option 2: Stay Home

A negative test result is required to return to school

Test must be on day 6 or after.

PCR/Antigen (NO at home tests)

Student may return on day 8

Option 3: Stay Home

No Test

Student may return on day 15

VACCINATED Students - No Symptoms

Return to School

Quarantine not required. Student may continue to attend school but must:

Recommend to test on day 3, 4, or 5 after the day of close contact.

Testing can be done at the following sites:

When you receive your results from your COVID test, please email your results to the Nursing and Wellness department at sdusdnursing@sandi.net 

VACCINATED Students - With Symptoms*

*If your student has a documented pre-existing chronic condition that accounts for the symptoms and filed with Challenger’s health office, the student can return to school.

Option 1: Stay at Home

Student must test:

Testing can be done at the following sites:

• Mira Mesa High School on Monday from 8:30am - 4:30pm. To register your student for testing at Mira Mesa High School, please follow these steps HERE
• Your physician
• San Diego County Testing Website
• Call 211

If COVID test is negative:

• Remain home until symptoms are improving and fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine

If COVID test is positive:

• Stay home for at least 10 days after symptom onset or the date of a positive test date was collected, whatever is earlier.  Return on or after day 11 with improving symptoms and fever free for 24 hours without the use of fever reducing medicine.

When you receive your results from your COVID test, please email your results to the Challenger’s health office at ahensler@sandi.net
